The route from Ueno Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line to Tokyo Bunka Kaikan

This is a walking guide to the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, which is a 13 minute walk from the Showa-Dori avenue south side ticket gate of the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, Ueno Station. The total distance is 577 meters. The destination is at the 10 o'clock position on the clock face once you exit the ticket gate. There are tactile paving tiles along the majority of the route, and directions will be given using clock positions. All distance calculations are as accurate as possible. Please note, intersections and corners refer to the tactile tile intersections and corners, not traffic intersections and corners.

1. 1. You will be guided through an automated ticket gate. If needed, there is a staffed ticket counter on the left. Once you exit the ticket gate, walk 16 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach the intersection branching in the 12 and 9 o'clock directions. For your reference, ignore the 2 intersections at the 3 and 7 meter marks which head in the 9 o’clock direction.
2. 2. At the intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 89 meters until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 2 o'clock direction. For your reference, there is an upward slope between the 6 and 89 meter marks. Ignore the 3 intersections at the 40, 77, and 86 meter marks which all head in the 9 o’clock direction. In addition, at the 81 and 85 meter marks, be cautious of the building pillars to the left of the paving tiles.
3. 3. At the corner, turn in the 2 o'clock direction and walk 12 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 9 o'clock directions. On the right of the intersection, there is a drugstore.
4. 4. At the intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 20 meters until you reach another intersection branching in the 12 and 3 o'clock directions. Before reaching the intersection at the 20 meter mark, ignore the 3 intersections at the 13, 16, and 17 meter marks. The 13 meter mark intersection heads in the 9 o’clock direction. The 16 meter mark intersection heads in the 3 o’clock direction. The 17 meter mark intersection heads in the 9 o’clock direction.
5. 5. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 20 meters until you reach a T shaped intersection of paving tiles. For your reference, ignore the intersection at the 7 meter mark heading in the 3 o’clock direction. In addition, be cautious of the wall standing on the right between the 4 and 10 meter marks, and another wall standing just beyond the T shaped intersection at the 20 meter mark.
6. 6. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 49 meters until you reach another T shaped intersection. For your reference, there is an upward slope between the 4 and 48 meter marks. At the 15 meter mark, the tactile paving tiles curve to the right.
7. 7. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 1 meter until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 3 o'clock directions.
8. 8. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 8 meters until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 3 o'clock direction.
9. 9. At the corner, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 2 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 9 o'clock directions.
10. 10. At the intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 26 meters until you reach a crosswalk with traffic signals. For your reference, at the 10 meter mark, ignore the intersection heading in the 9 o’clock direction. The traffic signal of the crosswalk has audio signals which sound like birds chirping.
11. 11. Cross the street by walking 10 meters in the 12 o'clock direction which will place you on the sidewalk across the street. For your reference, there are tactile paving tiles along the crosswalk.
12. 12. Once you are on the sidewalk, continue walking 3 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach a T shaped intersection of paving tiles. Be careful of the crowds of passing people.
13. 13. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 64 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 3 o'clock directions. This intersection will place you close to a 2 story staircase. For your reference, at the 64 meter mark, be careful not to pass through the intersection in the 12 o’clock direction.
14. 14. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 2 meters until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 9 o'clock direction.
15. 15. At the corner, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 2 meters, which will place you directly at the bottom of the 2 story staircase which has a 1 meter landing halfway up.
16. 16. Climb the staircase 18 steps in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach the landing halfway up. Handrails are located on both the left and right sides.
17. 17. Walk the landing 1 meter in the 12 o'clock direction and continue to climb the staircase 18 steps in the 12 o'clock direction. Once you reach the top of the staircase, you will be back on the sidewalk.
18. 18. Walk 214 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 2 o'clock direction. Please stop at this corner. For your reference, at the 3 meter mark, ignore the intersection which heads in the 9 o’clock direction. Between the 148 and 157 meter marks, be cautious of the 9 meter wide driveway entrance and exit. At the 157 meter mark, which is the far side of the driveway entrance and exit, be cautious of the car stop poles located on either side of the tactile paving walkway. At the 177 meter mark, ignore the intersection heading in the 3 o’clock direction. At the 187 meter mark, ignore the intersection heading in the 3 o’clock direction.
19. 19. Once you reach this corner, the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan’s main entrance is located just 26 meters away in the 8 o’clock direction. From this corner, there are no tactile paving tiles until you are inside the destination building.
20. 20. At this corner, turn in the 8 o'clock direction and walk 26 meters until you reach the first automatic sliding door of the destination building. For your reference, at the 20 meter mark, you will be on the property of the destination.
21. 21. Enter through the automatic sliding door and walk 3 meters heading in the 12 o’clock direction.
22. 22. At the 3 meter mark, continue through a second automatic sliding door, after which the tactile paving tiles will begin again.
23. 23. Walk 5 meters heading in the 12 o’clock direction until you reach the corner paving tile heading in the 9 o'clock direction.
24. 24. At the corner, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 4 meters until you reach the information desk. You have reached your destination.

The return route
From Tokyo Bunka Kaikan to Ueno Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line

This is a walking guide to the Showa-Dori avenue south side ticket gate of Ueno Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. It is a 13 minute walk from the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, a distance of 557 meters. The destination is at the 2 o'clock position on the clock face once you are outside the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. 1. 1. You will be guided through the main entrance and exit of the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan. Exit 2 automated sliding doors, which stand 3 meters apart. Once you are outside the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan building, walk 26 meters in the 12 o’clock direction until you reach the tactile paving tiles. The paving tiles go left and right.
2. 2. Once you are at the tactile paving tiles, walk 206 meters in the 3 o'clock direction until you reach a 2 story descending staircase. For your reference, at the 19 meter and 29 meter marks, ignore the intersection heading in the 9 o’clock direction. At the 49 meter mark, be cautious of the car stop poles located on either side of the tactile paving walkway. Between the 49 and 58 meter marks, be cautious of the 9 meter wide driveway entrance and exit. At the 203 meter mark, ignore the intersection heading in the 3 o’clock direction.
3. 3. Walk 3 meters to the staircase. Descend the staircase 18 steps until you reach the landing halfway down. Handrails are located on both left and right sides.
4. 4. Walk the 1 meter long landing and continue to descend the staircase 18 steps. Once you reach the ground, you will be back on a sidewalk.
5. 5. Walk 2 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 3 o'clock direction.

For your reference, there is a downward slope between the 4 and 44 meter marks. At the 34 meter mark, the tactile paving tiles curve to the left. At the 44 meter mark, ignore the intersection. Be cautious of the wall standing on the left between the 44 and 49 meter marks.
15. 15. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 20 meters until you reach a T shaped intersection of paving tiles. For your reference, be cautious of the wall to your left between the 5 and 11 meter marks. At the 14 meter mark, ignore the intersection branching in the 9 o’clock direction.
16. 16. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk 20 meters until you reach another T shaped intersection. For your reference, ignore the 3 intersections at the 3, 5, and the 7 meter marks. In addition, there is a drugstore just beyond the second T shaped intersection in the 12 o'clock direction.
17. 17. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 12 meters until you reach a corner paving tile heading in the 10 o'clock direction. For your reference, be cautious of the low ceiling from the 2 to 4 meter marks. The ceiling is approximately 180 centimeters high.
18. 18. At the corner, turn in the 10 o'clock direction and walk 89 meters until you reach a T shaped intersection of paving tiles. From this corner, a downward slope begins. Be cautious of the pillars and the wall to your right between the 4 and 89 meter marks. For your reference, before reaching the T shaped intersection at the 89 meter mark, ignore the 3 intersections branching in the 3 o’clock direction at the 3, 13, and the 49 meter marks.
19. 19. At the T shaped intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk 16 meters until you reach an automated ticket gate. A staffed ticket counter is on the right. For your reference, before reaching the ticket gate, at the 9 meter mark, ignore the intersection branching in the 3 o’clock direction. At the 13 meter mark, ignore the 4 way intersection. If you need a ticket, train ticket vending machines are in the 3 o’clock direction at this intersection. You have reached your destination.
