Program

At the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, we have set our goal to realize a society with diversity and conviviality through a higher quality of art activities.

The idea of “Accessibility” has been highlighted nowadays when we discuss what we should do for as many people as possible to participate in art activities as audience or practitioners, regardless of disability.

In this open lecture and discussion, we have experts in this subject as panelists who are familiar with accessibility issues in the field of art and have worked on various projects related to “people with disabilities and art.” They are from two cutting-edge organizations in Asian regions, ART:DIS in Singapore and No Limits in Hong Kong.

Through their case studies, in addition to those of the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan operated by Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, we are going to seek a way for cultural administrators to handle issues about accessibility and deliver art activities with scaled-up excellence.

(Agenda)

⁃ Case study of ART:DIS about nurturing professional artists with disabilities

⁃ Case study of No Limits about 1. setting up places where artists with disabilities can be fully active to showcase their works 2. building an accessible environment where any audience member is reachable to appreciate art activities

⁃ Case study of the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan/Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture about delivering convivial projects aiming to realize a society where all people can interact with each other through music

⁃ How to obtain help from your organization and artists upon starting an art activity project

⁃ Things you should do for the artistic and social value of your project to be heard by in and out of your organization
