About the Production and Synopsis

This production is a brand-new stage work created through a collaboration of literature, music, theater, and contemporary dance.

A third-grade middle school boy is struggling with insomnia and receives a CD of the Goldberg Variations from his mother. He appreciates it, knowing that it was composed by J.S. Bach for someone suffering from insomnia.

On the day of the school’s ball game festival, which will be his last as a middle schooler, he is so exhausted from lack of sleep that he decides to leave the festival. He heads to the old school building, where he hears the Goldberg Variations playing.

Curious, he peeks into the old music classroom and discovers Fujitani playing the piece on the piano.

They begin to talk about their struggles, which helps strengthen their connection. However, Fujitani is facing serious issues at home.

As their conversation continues, the boy starts to feel that Fujitani’s troubles are somewhat unrealistic…
