Support for Emerging Musicians Global Career Development
Masterclass with Martin MATALON

We are excited to announce that we will hold a masterclass for young musicians as a major target participants, featuring Martin MATALON, a renowned contemporary music composer, as the instructor.
The masterclass will be conducted in a lecture format, where Mr.Matalon—recently recognized for his original music in Fritz LANG’s film “Metropolis”—will share insights about his international career as a musician, the music-making process for silent films, and much more.
* The class is conducted in French. French to Japanese and Japanese to French consecutive interpretation is provided.

Martin MATALON, Composer and Conductor
Born in Buenos Aires in 1958, Martin Matalon was awarded the J.S Guggenheim fellowship, le prix de L’Institut de France Académie des Beaux Arts, the award from the city of Barcelona, the Grand Prix des Lycéens, the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters…
His catalogue includes a large variety of genres: opera, chamber and orchestral works, music theater, musical tales, music for silent films, opera, hörspiel, vocal music, mixed media, music & poetry…
Begun in 1997, the series of Trames, borderline works between solo concerto writing and chamber music, and the series of Traces, conceived for solo instruments and real time processing, and constituting a sort of compositional diary for their author, both form an important part of his catalogue.
Martin Matalon has written for, among others, the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de France, Orquesta de Barcelona y Catalunya, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, MusikFabrik, Ensemble Modern, AchtBrücken Festival…
He has been composer in residence with l’Orchestre National de Lorraine and the Arsenal de Metz (2003-2004), at the electronic studios of La Muse en Circuit (2005-2010), the Stavanger Festival (2012), Festival Les Arcs (2014), Festival Aspects de la Musique d’Aujourd’hui (Caen) and l’Orchestre Régional de Normandie.
His opera l’Ombre de Venceslao, with a libretto and staging of Jorge Lavelli after a theater work of Copi, has been premiered in 2016 at the Opéra de Rennes and toured in 9 Opera Houses in France and South America. L’Ombre de Venceslao has been nominated at the Victoires de la musique 2017.
