Further Activities

Since his recital debut at the age of 17, Shimata continues to hold recitals all over in Japan and has performed in Taiwan, Vienna, and Germany. He has also been performing as an accompanist and a chamber ensemble member, which has led him to be acclaimed for the unique presence of his piano sound, responding neatly to co-performers’ sounds simultaneously.
Up until now, he has taken courses at the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy, Académie de musique française de Kyoto, and the Ensemble Masterclass for Pianists held by Concert Hall Shizuoka AOI. He also performed in the students concert at each academy. As to chamber music, Shimata performed with renowned musicians such as the violinist URUSHIHARA Keiko, the cellist MUKOYAMA Kaeko, the koto (Japanese zither) players TAKITA Michiko and HONMA Takashi.
Currently, Shimata is the scholarship recipient of the Yamaha Music Foundation.

Repertoire

Shimata has been working on a wide range of music from Baroque to modern to contemporary. Especially, he is experienced in modern and contemporary works. He has constantly received reputations for French music those written by composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Dutille; and music written by Japanese composers such as MIYOSHI Akira. Also, these years, he has been challenging new works including those by Ligeti and the premiere performances for newly written pieces.
Regarding concertos, Shimata has previously performed those by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns, and Rachmaninoff, and he would like to work on other composers such as Liszt, Ravel, and Prokofiev in the future.
