About the Work

Die schöne Müllerin is undeniably one of Schubert’s top three song cycles.

This production presents all 20 songs along with Müller’s “Prologue” and “Epilogue” speeches, transforming a young man’s tragic love story into an operatic performance. The ensemble, composed of highly skilled artists in whom the director has great confidence—a superb Lieder singer, a pianist who transcends the role of mere “accompanist,” and a rising contemporary dancer—will guide us to the profound themes this cycle explores.

As his previous operatic performance of Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch in 2020, director IWATA Tatsuji’s second production is filled with his enduring passion for Lieder, which is sure to captivate your heart.
