Music Program TOKYO Workshop Workshop! Tokyo Networking Initiative Online Seminar for Workers in Cultural Institutions: Case studies on the current situation of activities by young artists and their support in the time of Corona in the United States

At this seminar, we will have Mary JAVIAN, Chair of Career Studies at Curtis Institute of Music, as a lecturer. She will tell us about the current situation of young artists including their supporting system in the United States.
Sharing those situation and issues arising overseas with our participants from different cultural institutions who are working on (or interested in) fostering and supporting young artists, we would like to figure out what we can sustainably and specifically do and support them in this ongoing time with COVID-19 in Japan.

Tokyo Networking Initiative

At the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, we have been building a network of cultural institutions through projects titled “Workshop Workshop! Tokyo Networking Initiative.” These projects embrace the support for young artists and the revitalization of local communities through musical activities featuring young performers.

There are numerous ways to support these emerging artists who lead the next generation. Specifically, through outreach activities for various audiences, training and presentation programs for developing bold careers, for instance. We, however, have a specific limited delivery of these programs from only one institution.

Support for these early-career artists becomes a boundless collaboration with other cultural institutions based in the Tokyo metropolitan area. These young talents initially have been found and fostered by different cultural facilities. This collaborative support provides opportunities and places for them to build new relationships and meet new audiences.
