Operatic Performance: Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch
The masterpiece of Lied performed in an operatic style: truly fabulous and precious things lie in simplicity, but never in fanciness.
Hugo Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch is said to be one of the uppermost lied works.
This work was designed as an operatic drama (love story) featuring a man and a woman, shuffling the order of all 46 pieces in this song book. The performance illustrates the songs’ strong emotions in a new form with a unique collaboration between a male and female pair of singers and that of dancers. The director puts his utmost trust in the performers, as the singers are experts of German lied and the dancers are up-and-coming in the contemporary field.
Enjoy the video recording of the performance filled with the love dedicated to the lieder for a long time by the sought-after stage director IWATA Tatsuji.
For the detail of the music program, please refer to the booklet distributed on the day of the performance.
